Radius SDI-12 Wireless LPWAN

Radius products are designed to wirelessly connect SDI-12 sensors across distances of up to 15km.

  • Uses unlicensed wireless spectrum to seamlessly connect SDI‐12 sensors.

Radius Mote

  • SDI-12 Wireless LPWAN Slave.
  • Connects directly to SDI-12 sensors (up to 10 per Mote).
  • Motes connect to a Gateway, or to Repeaters, to extend their range.

Radius Repeater

  • Extends the range of a wireless SDI-12 LPWAN network by an additional (up to) 15km.
  • Can connect up to 6 Motes/slaves per repeater.
  • Up to 3 repeaters can be part of a single network.

Radius Gateway

  • The central hub of a Radius network; one needed per network.
  • Connects directly to a data logger and/or uplink device to transmit data to cloud-based storage.

A traditional network requires significant infrastructure at each sensor data collection location (station): external, rechargeable power system, data logger or controller, and telemetry to send collected data.

This results in significant capital expenditure, maintenance and installation costs at each station, 

By contrast, a Radius network requires only a single, self-contained, environmentally rugged, automatically configuring Mote at each data collection location. Repeaters are used to extend the network where needed, and all data funnels through a Gateway, to which is connected a single data logger and/or a telemetry device.

This results in much lower one-time and ongoing costs at each “station”, and therefore overall for the network. Additional data collection locations can be added for less money.

Note that this represents a best-case scenario.  Range depends on antenna height/type and obstacles in path of line of sight. Signals can penetrate certain foliage, buildings and obstructions.

You can have up to 3 Repeaters between the Mote (attached to sensors) and the Gateway (attached to a data logger or telemetry uplink). With a maximum range of up to 15 km (9.3 miles) between Radius devices, you can collect data from SDI-12 sensors and log or transmit it from up to 60 km away.
